Abstract

The article provides a theoretical and methodological justification of the problem of body image dissatisfaction and standardization of the Ukrainian-language methodology for assessing the level of body image dissatisfaction by T. Cash. The Ukrainian-language methodology for diagnosing attitudes towards appearance by T. Cash has been adapted, which allows identifying the level of situational body image dissatisfaction, the validity and reliability of which have been proven. The high single-point reliability of the questionnaire, its internal consistency, test-retest reliability and high descriptive validity have been shown. The threshold values of the norm of situational body image dissatisfaction for men and women, as well as adolescents and adults have been determined. It has been determined that the level of body image dissatisfaction in women is higher than in men. It has been shown that in adolescence the level of body image dissatisfaction is higher than in adulthood. The descriptive validity of the method was determined: divergent and convergent validity is determined by the presence of connections with indicators of the ability to verbalize the bodily self (negative connections), bodily locus of control (positive connection) and the absence of connections and a weak connection with indicators of general self-attitude (reflected self-attitude). The method has high test-retest validity. High internal consistency of both sexes and the stability of the results within a month make this method one of the necessary components of a comprehensive study of a complex psychological construct – body image. In clinical use, this questionnaire can identify social contexts that are a particular source of stress for patients with problems and disorders in the perception of their own body. This method can also be used to assess the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic work with clients (patients) who have a negative attitude towards their own body.
