THE IMPACT OF WAR ON EMOTIONAL STATE AND MENTAL HEALTH OF PERSONALITY

Abstract

The article analyzes theoretical approaches to defining emotional state and mental health, examines the mechanisms of war’s impact on the human psyche, and identifies the main consequences of military conflicts for the psychological well-being of individuals. Emotional state and mental health are considered key categories in modern psychological science, playing an important role in understanding personality and behavior. In conditions of military conflict, the issue of psychological well- being of the population becomes particularly acute, as war acts as an extremely powerful stressor that causes a wide range of psychological reactions. The study examines the classification of mental states according to functional characteristics into emotional, volitional, and cognitive states. Special attention is paid to the study of negative psychological states, as they act as destabilizing factors that complicate an individual’s self-control over emotions and behavior regulation. The biopsychosocial model of psychological health, which is formed under the influence of genetic, physiological, psychological, and social factors, is analyzed. The phenomenon of psychological trauma is investigated as a deep affective reaction that has an intrapsychic character and manifests in disorders of adaptation and personality functioning. The stages of experiencing psychological trauma are identified: shock, stabilization, recovery, and integration. Post-traumatic stress disorder is examined as a common disorder among people who have experienced military conflicts, its typical symptoms, and risk groups. Particular attention is paid to the phenomenon of collective trauma as a socio-psychological phenomenon that reflects mass emotional discomfort and social disorganization. The necessity of a comprehensive approach to prevention and rehabilitation, which includes medical, psychosocial, and cultural support for various population categories, is substantiated.
