Abstract

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the emotional sphere of adults with diverse sexual orientations in the context of contemporary Ukrainian society. The relevance of the topic is substantiated in light of the growing public discourse on issues of sexual identity and the need for evidence-based data for psychological support without pathologising sexual orientation. Theoretical approaches to the study of the emotional sphere are analysed within the framework of the minority stress model and concepts of sexual stigma as factors of psychological burden. The empirical study was conducted as an anonymous online survey among adult respondents; sexual orientation was assessed using the Kinsey Scale, which is grounded in a continuum approach to evaluating sexual attraction and behaviour. For diagnostic purposes, a set of psychodiagnostic instruments was applied: the Balanced Emotional Empathy Scale (BEES), the Emotionality / Sensitivity Test, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Emotional Creativity Inventory (ECI); statistical analysis was performed using Welch's t-test. The study findings established that groups with non-heteronormative orientation more frequently demonstrated elevated levels of empathy and emotional sensitivity compared to the heterosexual group, where moderate values predominated. At the same time, greater variability in selfattitude was revealed among bisexual and homosexual respondents on the self-esteem scale. It was determined that individuals with non-heteronormative orientation exhibit higher scores on the “Novelty” and “Authenticity” subscales of emotional creativity, indicating a tendency toward non-stereotypical forms of emotional expression and the ability to integrate contradictory emotional experiences. The findings are interpreted within the context of chronic social stress, experiences of stigmatization, and the necessity of concealing one's identity as factors shaping a specific emotional profile. The applied significance of the findings for psychoeducation and psychological support of individuals with diverse sexual orientations is emphasised
