PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE FOR INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN REHABILITATION TO NEW LIFE CONDITIONS

Abstract

The article discloses the main features of psychological assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine in rehabilitation to new living conditions in terms of the influence of various factors on this process. There was analyzed the contribution of leading domestic scientific research on this issue, that considered the complex issue of socio-psychological aspects of psychotherapeutic assistance to internally displaced persons, the main specifics of psychological rehabilitation of IDPs. After reviewing the literature, it was found that psychological assistance to internally displaced persons should be primarily based on the development of a strategy for the adaptation of such persons to a new environment, at the same time, all mechanisms should be used to ensure that IDPs have a sufficient level of information and a set of skills for self-help and awareness, which will allow faster adaptation to new conditions. The most important factors for the success of adjustment and adaptation of the population under the condition of traumatic experience and resettlement have been determined. A list of the main areas of psychological assistance offered to internally displaced persons is provided. Also here was given the results of some relevant sociological studies. It was found that the adaptation of internally displaced persons requires them to adapt on two levels: “personality-environment” and “personality-society”; that assistance to IDPs should include both the approval of new mechanisms for building social and household well-being, and the measures to achieve psychological rehabilitation and recovery after traumatic events. A number of difficulties that arise in the provision of psychological assistance to IDPs were singled out here. The main set of assistance measures that IDPs need was given as well. Conclusions were made regarding the main psychological impact of relocation on the life and functioning of IDPs, the main tasks of psychological assistance to IDPs and prospects for improving the effectiveness of programs and interventions within the limits of this problem.
