DIACHRONIC REVIEW OF RESEARCH ON PARENTIFICATION IN FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC PSYCHOLOGY

Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive theoretical and methodological analysis of the formation and development of the concept of “parentification” within foreign and domestic scientific discourse. The aim of the work is to provide a retrospective review of the evolution of views on role inversion in child-parent relationships: from the first clinical descriptions within systemic family therapy to modern multifactorial models. The research methodology is based on systemic, structural-functional, cultural, psychological, activity-based and personality-oriented approaches, using such methods to provide comparative analysis, generalization and induction. The scientific novelty lies in the attempt at a comprehensive theoretical understanding of world experience. Within the framework of the diachronic approach, key stages of conceptualization of the phenomenon are identified: the classical stage, where parentification was considered as a violation of family ethics and hierarchy; the stage of empirical verification, which developed a typology (instrumental and emotional parentification), quantitative measurement tools and the stage of local adaptation, where the phenomenon is studied through the prism of social transformations, transgenerational traumas and the specifics of the Ukrainian socio-cultural context. Special attention is paid to comparing approaches to understanding the destructive and adaptive potential of parentification. The conclusions of the article emphasize the need for further integration of historical experience for the development of modern programs of psychological correction of individuals who have experienced early adulthood
