The relevance of this study is driven by the growing psycho-emotional burden experienced by volunteers amid the full-scale war in Ukraine. Prolonged involvement in assisting those affected, the high level of responsibility, and continuous exposure to traumatic events significantly influence the psychological state of individuals engaged in volunteer work. In this context, the study of volunteers’ mental health acquires particular importance, as it is a critical factor for their effectiveness, resilience, and ability to continue supporting others. The purpose of the article is to identify the specific characteristics of volunteers’ mental health during wartime, including post-traumatic symptoms, emotional burnout, and related psychological factors, which will serve as a foundation for developing practical support strategies. The article presents the results of an empirical study on the mental health of volunteers engaged in prolonged charitable activities during the military conflict. Special attention is given to the prevalence of post-traumatic symptoms, emotional burnout, and associated psychological factors. The study sample included 98 participants, differentiated by age and gender. Research methods involved analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, a diagnostic experiment, and statistical data analysis. The results indicate that volunteers of middle adulthood exhibit higher levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and PTSD symptoms compared to younger participants. Gender differences were observed in psychological adaptation strategies: women more frequently seek social support and show higher levels of hyperarousal, while men are more prone to intrusive experiences and avoidance strategies. Correlation analysis revealed strong associations between emotional exhaustion, PTSD symptoms, and maladaptive coping strategies. The article substantiates the need for the implementation of targeted psychological support programs for volunteers, taking into account age, gender-specific characteristics, and the intensity of stress exposure.
